BENTLEY Wood Restoration

YES, we can restore your Bentley woodwork !
!!!! ANY YEAR - ANY MODEL !!!!!

Pre-War - Post War To Date

Throughout their history, Bentley has offered some of the most  beautiful and complex wood appointments ever found in automobiles, and that tradition continues with the models Bentley produces today.  We at Madera Concepts are proudly dedicated to doing our part in maintaining the Bentley “Heritage” by helping you get the wood trim in your Bentley  looking “Showroom New”.

As you may have learned, there were many coach builders especially in the early years and the wood found in some models was totally unique to that particular vehicle.  That being said, we have done our best to properly identify the wood you see in our Bentley section, based on the information we were given.  Likewise, we may not have been sent all the wood for a particular model and those parts are not pictured.  However, if you know something we don’t, please let us know and we will make corrections and additions.  If you have photos of Bentley woodwork you’d like to share with the world, please let us know.

Also, due to time constraints, we were not always able to take “after” pictures in our shop and in order to get “in car” pictures we had to depend on our customers taking them, and sending them to us....which most of the time they didn’t.   Therefore, for many models, we have “before” restoration pictures, but we do not have “after” pictures.  However, if you open various pages in our site, you will see many “after” pictures that will give you an idea of what we can do for you!!!

There are just so many years and models of Bentley, that we cannot begin to address them ALL here...and of course we’ll add to these pages as we can.  Since our founding in 1982, we have restored wood from nearly every year of Bentley, including the newest models.

Here is a partial list and pictures of just a few of the hundreds
of different Bentley sets we have restored - we will be adding more pictures soon.

Please choose a model, or scroll down the page
to see all.

This set came to us AFTER it was taken to a local cabinet and furniture maker who thought they could restore it.  They realized they were in way over their head and gave the set back to the owner of the car.  If you look closely, you can see where they sanded right thru the veneer into the base wood substrate.

All the wood from this Bentley came to us for refinishing and our customer was kind enough to send us this photo after it was installed back in their car.

But rest assured, if you own a Bentley, we’ve got you covered !!!  No matter the year or the model, we can restore your wood for you.

For most of the Bentley woodwork, refinishing is generally required, but occasionally we get in a set that needs both Reveneering and Refinishing.  Of course should you want to change the wood type to suit your own tastes, we can custom veneer for you. No matter the condition of your wood, we can help you.

Below are some general criteria about Refinishing and Reveneering.

If the base wood and the wood veneer on the face of the parts is in good enough condition, we can Refinish them for you.  See example pictured below:

The clear on these parts is in poor condition, but the face veneer is still intact and in good enough condition for us to Refinish them.

If the base wood “substrate” is in good condition, but the wood veneer on the face of the part is having trouble, we can reveneer and refinish your parts for you.  (You could even have us change the veneer from the original straight grained veneer....to a beautiful Burled Walnut.)  Check out the completed parts further down the page.

If you look closely at this Door Insert Panel, you will see that the the wood veneer on the face of the part has actually come off the part. You can also see raised horizontal splits in the veneer that are where the veneer has cracked, and buckled outward which is a sure indication that the veneer is coming unglued.

Sometimes we get in parts that are broken.  Sometimes we can fix them, sometimes  we can’t.  Most of the time we CAN !!!!  So give us a call.

We were able to successfully repair and the restore this badly broken part.

Typically parts that have gotten wet begin to have trouble and if caught in time normally need only refinishing and if the damage is bad enough, repair, reveneering and then refinishing.   BUT, in all our years we have never seen automobile woodwork rotted away this badly.

This wood was exposed to the elements for so long, that literally half of the dash had rotted away and what was left wasn’t much.

Fortunately our customer had a lot of talent, a friends car to compare with and trial fit parts AND the patience to rebuild ALL the wood in his Bentley Continental Fastback R-Type.  It took him 2 years to recreate and trial fit all the parts!!!  He then sent us the raw wood parts for veneering and refinishing.  The end results were beyond his wildest dreams.

You gotta love this guy’s “anything is possible”, “never say die” spirit !!!Please keep in mind, whenever you have us restore parts for you, we always recommend that you have us do all the parts at one time . . . guaranting the best possible wood grain pattern and color match.  If the wood in your Bentley is showing its age, give us a call, we are at your service!      800-800-1579  7am to 3:30pm PT  Mon - Fri

1934 Bentley 4.25 Drop Head Coup

This set came to us in need of restoration and at distant glance it didn’t look too bad.  But if you look closely you can see the veneer bubbling up, blistering and cracking all over.

Here is a closer look. (especially in the shinny area) It was apparent to us, that this set had been reveneered and refinished by someone who obviously did not know what they were doing.  More than likely, they used materials and methods that worked well in the furniture or cabinet making world....but we know they won’t stand up in the automotive world.

Whomever did this previous reveneering job, did not have a clue what is proper and what is not. Check out this poor attempt at a bookmatch.

1934 Bentley 4.25

This set came to us in pretty good condition.  The wood substrate was still sound and the veneer was still intact.

We apologize that these pictures turned out so dark, but our customer wanted the set stained quite dark AND no matter how we tried, our camera couldn’t pick up more detail.  We hope you can imagine the parts being quite a bit lighter that what you see.

1937 Bentley 4.25

Although these pictures aren’t the greatest....some “affectionados” might find them interesting.

Wood Choices are:  Burled Walnut (shown above) and Carpathian Elm Burl
(custom specialty veneers are available at an extra charge.)
